The essence of the issue:
Sometimes people insist on getting a scanned copy of a document — even though there’s really no difference between that and a digital version with a photo of a signature and a stamp. Bureaucracy can get pretty ridiculous at times. Personally, I’m all for saving paper and switching fully to electronic document workflows. But for some, having a physical scan is still a big deal.
I used to create these kinds of documents in Photoshop — until I got completely fed up with it. So, I ended up writing a simple bash script for myself. It takes a color PDF and outputs a version that looks like it was scanned, faxed, or photocopied.
The result looks very realistic.
