Chat GPT — a new era of tools

The hype around the Chat GPT forced me to do a little philosophizing

The world of information is overflowing with stories about ChatGPT and people are curious about its progress. This can be overwhelming, as all the posts about GPT often obscure other news. The term ChatGPT has become a common word, just like Xerox, Pampers, and aspirin.

Nowadays, any AI system involved in a conversation is referred to as ChatGPT.

Here is my opinion on this. Neuronics are becoming a valuable tool for humans. A new era of search engines is emerging. At one point, Google was considered a miraculous machine. Paid lawyer databases, which quickly retrieve a lot of cases on a specific legal aspect, are an example of such commercial search engines. This makes work much easier, as it eliminates the need to read numerous books, laws, and acts and instead, the case law of interest can be found quickly.

Today’s modern ML tools, often referred to as AI systems, are simply a new tool that is better than the old search engines. For someone who lacks technical knowledge, they may seem like an advanced autocorrector in Word that can correct errors and even teach. For a pro who understands the answer they need, it’s a great search engine that saves time in finding the right answer. For me, as a programmer, ChatGPT is already a helpful search engine, either instead of or in addition to Google.

From my experience in IT, if one doesn’t understand the specifics, they won’t know how to ask the right question and will get the wrong result. Even when you get the answer, you’ll still have to ask for clarification. Otherwise, the AI system won’t give you the correct answer.

In conclusion, this is a stunning development. Imagine the transition from pigeon mail to telegraph with Morse code. However, the “alphabet” of neuronics still needs to be learned and it’s not a simple task. It will take time for neuronics to evolve from telegraph to telephone relay, but I’m confident it will eventually achieve something futuristic.

Just like the first telephone service had telephonists and telephone operators, we are now in the era of neural network operators. There are already courses for ChatGPT and Midjourney (oh my God!) and jobs that require knowledge and experience with these systems. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a job for a ChatGPT and Midjourney operator who knows how to make accurate queries using templates and query databases, and is capable of learning new ones. But this is just a transitional period.

What’s your take on this?

I wrote this text myself, but I translated it from Russian to English and corrected it in Chat GPT. It helped to remove grammatical errors.
